CONSTRUCTION
The hull is Rib-Kore reinforced solid fiberglass, single skin construction, using Reichold Vinylester resin. The hull is stiffened with two (2) reinforced, continuous longitudinal stringers and transverse bilge stringers; all bulkheads are glassed to the hull.
Deck construction utilizes Baltec 1" end grain balsa core in all areas except for through deck fastenings, where solid fiberglass replaces the core material.
The keel is the Paine/Morris shoal draft, high performance design, with 8,200 lbs. of external lead ballast. The deep balanced rudder is a skeg-protected closed cell fiberglass foil.
ACCOMODATIONS
FINBACKs interior is classic Herreshoff style, with white bulkheads trimmed in cherry with a satin varnish finish. Cabin sole is teak and holly composite with urethane finish. The entire cabin sole is removable.
Her forward cabin features a v-berth, with shelving and storage space above and outboard. A large translucent hatch overhead and two stainless steel opening ports provide ventilation and natural lighting. The forward head has a vanity with stainless steel sink, mirror, and additional storage outboard and under the sink. Pressure hot and cold water with shower, and manual foot pump for cold water.
Main salon has a U-shaped dinette to port with custom Ultrasuede® cushions surrounding a custom swivel/slide drop-leaf table. To starboard, a settee pulls out into a sleeping berth. Above and outboard of both the dinette and the settee are lockers and book storage.
A U-shaped galley is located to port and aft of the main salon. Three-burner propane stove with oven/broiler aft, and 8.5 cubic foot ice box forward. Galley countertops are Formica with cherry fiddles. Large storage lockers are located above the counter top, with a pot locker under the stove. Double-basin stainless steel sink, with hot and cold pressure water (new faucet 2008) and spray rinse. Galley freshwater foot pump. Xintex propane gas alarm system.
The nav. station is to starboard, opposite the galley. The nav. station is forward facing with opening top for chart storage and electrical panels mounted outboard. Two drawers, outboard shelving, and a built in tool tray offer ample storage.
The aft cabin, located to port behind the galley, features a large double quarterberth, a hanging locker, dresser, and overhead chart storage locker. A reversible fan built into the aft cabin bulkhead assists air flow into the aft cabin. An access door through the aft bulkhead allows access to the autopilot. To starboard of the companionway is the aft head and shower, complete with separate shower stall, hanging foul-weather gear lockers, sink and toilet. Hot and cold pressure water and manual foot pump.
Natural lighting and ventilation is provided to the main salon, galley and nav. station by two translucent hatches in the overhead, two dorade vents, five fans, and a total of six (6) stainless steel opening ports. Electrical lighting is provided by two (2) bulkhead berth lights in both the forward and aft cabins, rod lights in both the forward and aft head, and a dome light in the aft shower. The main salon has reading lights located at the outboard corners of the dinette, as well as the forward outboard corner of the settee. Two rod lights are located in the galley, and both a red/white dome light and red/white adjustable light are located in the nav. station.
